The tale of the sitting room...

There is an old story about the hotel's Sitting Room. 

According to the story, the room was especially popular many years ago, when afternoon tea was still served from a silver cart and guests would linger for hours in the comfortable chairs by the windows.

Over time, however, the staff began noticing something unusual.

Every so often, a housekeeper would find a tea service waiting on the table in the morning. The silver pot would still be warm, two porcelain cups would be set beside it, and a small plate of biscuits would sit untouched nearby.

At first, they assumed someone had simply forgotten to clear the room. But the tea was always fresh, even on mornings when the Sitting Room had been empty since the previous afternoon.

Eventually, the staff began to wonder if they knew who was leaving it there.

Some believe it is the young couple who disappeared from the hotel years ago after spending their wedding night in the honeymoon suite. According to the old story, they had spent their first afternoon together in the Sitting Room, sharing tea by the windows before returning upstairs.

Perhaps, the staff say, they simply never stopped.

One housekeeper decided to stay late one evening to see for herself.

Just after midnight, she heard the faint clink of porcelain coming from the Sitting Room.

When she looked inside, the tea service was waiting. The silver pot was steaming, and one of the chairs had been pulled slightly away from the table.

Then she watched as the second teacup slowly filled, though no one was there to pour it.

She never entered the room.

By morning, the tea was gone, but both chairs had been pushed back from the table, as though two guests had finished their tea and quietly gone on their way.
