The Locked Room

As warmth begins to flood your throat,

a sudden, heavy sound:

a doorknob rattles down the hall

where lost things might be found.

It twists and turns with frantic speed

against a fastened door,

while heavy thuds and muffled breaths

scrape low across the floor.
