Guests in Room 406 sometimes wake in the early hours to the sound of the television turning on by itself.

The screen fills with the soft hiss of static, casting a pale glow across the room. No matter how many times the television is switched off, it always flickers back to life.

One guest woke to find two pale handprints slowly appearing against the glass, as though someone were pressing their palms against the screen from the other side.

He reached for the remote, but before he could switch it off, the static cleared.

For a moment, the screen showed the room exactly as it was, except there was a dark shadowy figure standing behind him.

He turned around.

There was no one there.

When he looked back at the television, the screen had returned to static, and the handprints were gone.
